Full Gospel Church Dundee and Teen Challenge have launched ‘Rehab Placement’, where visitors are offered advice and counsel, with the potential to place them in either Teen Challenge’s men’s rehab, Sunnybrae, near Fyvie, or women’s rehab, Benaiah, near Mintlaw.
The sessions take place at Full Gospel Church on the city’s Constitution Street every Wednesday, from 2pm-4:30pm, with all welcome.
The launch of the initiative comes as Scottish drug deaths continue to reach new record levels, with the latest annual figure almost three times higher than it was a decade ago.
1,339 men and women died due to drugs in 2020, meaning Scotland continues to have the highest drug rate by any country in Europe.
Both Teen Challenge North East Scotland centres are located in rural Aberdeenshire settings, offering peaceful retreats where those suffering from substance misuse can take time out to rebuild their lives.
At the centres, residents complete the charity’s faith-based programme, which is made up of a balanced mix of class-based studies, counselling sessions, personal reflection, work duties and recreation, helping students to become physically, emotionally and spiritually whole.
Full Gospel Church’s Pastor, Michael Holloway, commented: “Maybe by helping those wanting help we can have a ripple effect for transformation through bringing hope.”
Gordon Cruden, Area Manager of Teen Challenge North East Scotland, added: “The latest drug related death stats make for concerning reading and we have to remember that each number represents a heart-breaking story, with families continuing to be ripped apart by the misery of drugs.
“Throughout Teen Challenge we have many stories of hope and inspiration for anyone caught in the misery of drink and drug abuse, showing that there is an answer and that they can find their way out of the mess to start a new, fresh life.
“We’re extremely pleased to be able to bring this new initiative to Dundee in partnership with our friends at Full Gospel Church and would encourage anyone interested in more information and guidance on how to beat addiction and live a life of freedom to head along.”
